It is best to treat tooth decay or trauma before an infection occurs. However, in the event an infection within the tooth develops endodontic treatment (including root canal therapy) can preserve your tooth by removing the infected nerve, sealing it, and strengthening the remaining tooth structure with a dental crown.

Avoid a tooth extraction by being aware of your symptoms such as: Radiating pain, pain when biting down or chewing, lingering pain from hot or cold foods/drinks, a dull throbbing ache in your tooth or surrounding gums, or a localized swelling or tender area on the gum are symptoms you should be aware of.

Some tooth pain can signal a serious, worsening infection, requiring immediate action and treatment. Treat your infection quickly before it worsens.
